Quoting my favorite NY Yankee of all time, Yogi Berra, “It’s deja vue all over again.” I’m sorry I haven’t posted recently, but we have undergone a revision of our webpage. (Take some time to explore some of the new sections) and we’ve been very busy with routine visits and getting ready for the new school year.
As we hit the “half way” mark of summer vacation, the news is full of stories about the resurgence of COVID-19, the Delta and Lambda variants and how they are affecting a younger population – children who are too young to be immunized yet and young adults who have chosen not to receive the immunization. A year ago, I was very hopeful that our children would return to school and, because of the precautions taken, we would see the numbers steadily decrease. Well. Guess I was wrong!
So this summer, with more than 100 new cases in Monroe County today, I am not quite as hopeful as last year. We need to continue to wear masks in public, especially indoors. I think it is realistic for schools to reopen if students can be 3 feet apart and wear masks. But, I leave those decisions up to the school administrators since they know what will work and what will not in each building.
I implore all of you to continue to be careful. If you or your children are eligible for the vaccine, please do not hesitate to get it. The vaccine is safe and effective. Continue to wear masks and take the precautions we have grown so used to. This pandemic is far from over.
